So, he thinks wife beating is fine in Egypt because Egyptian women really respect men who do it, but not in Canada? I guess that makes him a moderate Muslim.

I think the real point of this isn’t what he’s saying, but that he’s saying it. Every time I see a report about some extremist muslim rant (cat food, whatever), there seems to be some obligatory comment about how this doesn’t represent mainstream ‘moderate’ islam. Yet, there seem to plenty of these folks, and they don’t seem to be honestly challenged by their society. THAT is the real issue.
To put that into perspective, even though the conservative christian right in the US may attempt to force it’s misguided philosophies upon everybody, you simply have to take away theireth and male hookers and they shut right up.

You laugh but remember the guy praying for Saddam, that great Arab hero, despite the fact that Saddam killed his brother and his uncle. There’s a Morocccan proverb about kissing the hand that beats you, and a Pashtun one that says wherever there is the sound of a blow, there is respect. The anthropological argument goes that in an aggressively levelling, shame-based society, no adult male will willingly admit that he is inferior to any other adult male in any way whatsoever. So the only way to accept authority is if it is so over-whelmingly powerful and terrifying that no reasonable person can be expected to defy it and hence to obey has no shame.
So, yes, I think if you beta him to a pulp he’d love you.

There is no mainstream moderate Islam – or at least none that is worth mentioning. It may arise in the future. There are some in the West who are struggling with the concept. But right now, there are Muslims who believe and Muslims who do not or at least only on a Friday. Of those who believe, there are Muslims with guts and Muslims without guts. And that is it.
Personally I believe in beating the crap out of anyone called imam, mullah, or ayatollah. And not lightly either.

All of you have this guy all wrong 😉 He’s telling you what eddie murphy told us years ago, which basically says there are different standards for how you deal with your wife depending on where you live. If she is born and raised in the middle east and then you take her out of her natural enviornment, to lets say……chicago. Then you might have a problem, see for yourself

Muslim worshippers stone their own buses

Following the afternoon prayers at the Temple Mount a group of approximately 150 Muslim Israeli men and women threw rocks at the buses that had been sent to take them home.
A crowd chanted, “Allah is great,” while pelting the buses which were waiting near the Rockefeller Museum.
Police forces were accompanying the worshippers and said that no additional incident occurred during or after the prayer service.
O Fuck thats sad! I shared the Mufti’s wisdom with a couple of my Canadian friends (I unfortunately live in the land where women beating is illegal thank god) and noone could believe how the Egyptians were more civilized 7000 years ago then we are today…..

How come someone always brings up the ‘Christian right’ whenever a retarded muslim says or does something insane? Give me instances where they have imposed, forced, blown up, on you or anyone. Also you can explain what makes the Judeo-Christian philosophy ‘misguided’ compared to your own.

Tom Katt, perspective? Kindof skewed thinking. I don’t think anyone from the Christian right has ever said it’s ok for men to beat their wives, or called women meat, practiced honor killing.
If you think this guy is comparable to the Christian right, try living in an even ‘moderately’ Muslim country, like I do, and you’d be begging to live under the tyranny of George Bush in four days.

Surely the traditionalists are the ones who are interpreting the Quran exactly as it is, and it is scholars like Laleh Bakhtiar who is interpreting it in her own twisted way? The verse does say beat them after all. What other interpretation is there?
I don’t want to suggest Islam is evil, but it is what it is and unfortunately it is not what everyone would always want. I don’t see denying that is a sensible policy.
