The last summer Lebanon War seems to be causing quite the problem in Israel : They don't know what to name it or call it, and apprently the name is necessary in order for them to deal with its political and psychological aftermath.
See, we arabs never have that problem. It's all part of the evil imperialistic wars of the jewish zionist entity. No need for introspection or analysis. We just don't have the time for that that Jews seem to have. Must be a guilt thing!

Israel should call it “The Half-Assed War” because that’s the way they fought it.

Until fairly recently, Israel hadn’t decided to classify this as a war at all, which was a problem for Israelis who were demanding compensation from the government based on the fact that this was a war. So naming the thing is important for accounting reasons. Every real war has a name.
In a historical sense, this WAS a small-scale conflict, not a full-blown middle east war. The size of forces involved and the amount of force expended was significantly less than in most prior middle east wars. E.g. in the 6 Day War, Egypt had 150000 soldiers involved, Syria had 75000 and Jordan had 55000. There were 100s of combat aircraft and battle tanks involved in that war. Even in 1982, there were 37000 “soldiers” serving under Arafat.
In contrast, in Lebanon II, Hizballah had maybe 10000 men, and until the last few days the number of Israeli soldiers involved was tiny. In those last few days, Israel brought 30000 soldiers into the conflict – half of what it had sent to any other war and less than 10% of the 415000 Israeli soldiers who fought in the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

Israel fought the Hizballah war with both hands tied behind its back and its foot in its mouth, largely the result of criminally incompetent leadership by Olmert and Peretz, relatively weak organization within the IDF and a truly naive reliance on air power by the chief of staff (unlike Iraqi armored columns, guerilla armies hiding in civilian areas are never defeated by air power).
That said, Israel nevertheless put its soldiers on the Litani River less than 72 hours after sending in large numbers of ground troops, occupied areas that had been Hizballah strongholds, collected hard evidence that Hizballah has Iranian and Russian supply lines, negotiated a UN-Lebanese Army presence on the border in place of Hizballah and demonstrated to sane Lebanese that they cannot afford to let Hizballah and Syria continually drag them into war with Israel.
Since the war, Israel has replaced Halutz and rolled back organizational changes that he had instituted shortly before the war and which may have contributed to performance below expectations. In contrast, Hizballah has tried to pretend that killing about 100 Israelis (Israel has 1,500,000 men and women fit to serve in the regular army or reserves) and losing 500 (Lebanese and UN estimates) of its 1000 active fighters and 10000 reserves, plus losing control of its south Lebanese fortress was a “victory.” It’s not clear whether Hizballah leaders really believe their own propaganda. If they do, they will likely create more conflicts in the future, to the detriment of everyone in the region, but especially to the people of Lebanon (who deserve better than this).
I continue to be frustrated by the ineptitude of Olmert and Peretz and the slow pace at which lessons are being implemented. But given a choice between living in Israel vs. living in any territory under Hizballah control, there’s no doubt at all; living in Hizballahstan is incredibly unhealthy.

If Israel did get their ass kicked, it’s because they actually listened to all the whining about how cruelly they were destroying Lebanon. Funny how, while the bullets were flying, it was all disproportionate this, and disproportionate that. Once the Lebanese whined their way into a cease fire, all of a sudden there’s all this trash talk about the glorious victory. In the dictionary under “chutzpah” – there it is!

Anwar, nobody won. Not Israel. Not Hezbollah. Neither. Everybody lost. The lesson for both sides is to take war seriously and don’t enter into it frivolously nor half-hearted. Hezbollah blundered into this war by firing hundreds of missiles into Israel and kidnapping Israeli soldiers. Israel did not take the war seriously to fight it to the finish. They should have annihilated Hezbollah, extirpated it from Lebanon. Nothing was gained, much was lost.
And any organization which claims that its chief advantage is that it loves death is not the good guys. That’s as concise an evil mission statement as you can get. If you are on the side of death, you are on the side of pure evil.
Although, it’s not fashionable, but it’s not ‘we arabs’. You’re an Egyptian. Not a sand monkey, because Egyptians aren’t bedouins and aren’t tied to the sand in anyway.
But hey, if it’s more suitable for your writing angle to call yourself Arab (part of the whole arab anti-semetism conspiracy market that you’re satire all the time) then so be it.
given 4 more weeks israel would have exterminated hezbollah but as usual the world had to save the little arab babies from the cruel jews. what a joke. 6 million jews, 300 million arabs. given all things equal, you arabs couldnt fight your way out of a paper bag and when the oil runs out get ready for a reckoning.
