What happened to him? It’s called getting older. Things don’t come to you as quickly as they did before. Give it another 25-35 years and you’ll know what I mean. In addittion, he has one of the most stressful jobs on earth. Look at any president when they enter office and when they leave. They have really aged, all of them.

Most of you are way too young to remember what the media did to President Regan and how they villified him. He was stupid, arrogant, and dangerous. Also very very effective. These people who trash the man are only playing high school games and the game the media tells them to play. Like good little parrots that never ever have to think for themselves. History will judge what this period is and they will forget all about the losers who said the same things about Regan and were sorely as wrong then as they are now. No one remembers them but they do remember Regan. History repeates itself over and over.
As a teen in the 80’s, I hated Reagan until I grew up, got a job, and started paying taxes. Well, I loved his foreign policy, except when he decided to do something between 2:30 and 5pm, because my mom would lose her cool when the news broke into her soaps.
He was probably still drinking heavily back then.
Let’s be fair here. Kerry, Gore, and Bush were all crappy students who got into Ivy League skools as the kidz of really rich and connected guv’mint guys — Kerry’s was a senior diplomat, Gore’s was a racist senator, and Bush’s was in Congress and CIA director. OTOH, Reagan legitimately earned his college degree as a lower middle class kid and compiled a remarkable philosophical record. Bush is an average guy, and Kerry and Gore are useless blowhards.

Well, it is interesting. I’m a little skeptical, though. You can pick his most eloquent statements from ten years ago, and his least cognizant recent statements to make a point.
I also tend to agree with Puniqe. I think he feels the pressure more now.
But, damn. I wish he could say nuclear. I know nucular is a regional colloquialism, and not a sign of stupidity, but it just sounds bad.
I voted for him twice. I am as conservative as possible without being an actual fascist but it’s a struggle these days with all the idiots running free and trying to turn the US into Eurabia.
GWB is a failure in just about every way one can fail as POTUS. He has abjectly lied on every major issue that matters. He ran against Clinton’s ‘nation building’ and then turns around and tries to build a new Iraq in the middle of Central Jihady-land. He signed the campaing finance reform bill … otherwise known as the incumbant protection program. He made sure that old folks get free drugs … paid for by all us regular middle class workers … WHEN MOST OF THE OLE FOLKS ARE SITTING ON A PILE OF MONEY. I could go on and on and on.
GWB is a FOOL. He is living proof that some secret cabal or committee is running this country. No one man could be that stupid.

Actually, Kerry has a mixed French-Jewish ancestry. His grandparents name was Cohen. They concluded that their children would fare better in predominantly Irish Catholic Boston if they switched religions, and changed their name to an Irish-sounding one.
None of that has anything to do with the fact that he is a gigalo, which he is. He married for money twice, which is pretty much the essence of gigalo-hood.

What happened to Bush is a symptom called “Inside the Beltway” – itis. When you’re running for local and state offices, you have to appear smart because the locals are near. When you get to the haven of DC, you have to dumb down to reach the masses. What I would note to all non-US readers is this: you mainly see our Washington DC morons. What do you really think of the Bush tape 10 years ago? Vibrant? Cocky? A fighter? This, my friends, is how the “rest” of us are. You think the Washington flatheads run this country? They’re crooks. It’s all of the rest of US that keep the heart and machine in this country pumping. I like this clip. It’s a great example of what happens to a person after a few years in DC. Please scroll up and read Naomi’s 2:23 epistle again. Dead on. I’ve heard that GWB is nervous with a big audience. By contrast, he can be quite lucid and relaxed in a more private setting– only a few days ago I heard a radio interview wih him by “Juan” somebody and it was actually not painful to listen to him. This video makes a point but it is also carefully constructed. By a number of criteria GW is no conservative (e.g. Federal spending) and it is nice to hear from a few who appreciate Reagan, who suffered even more derision from the Left while in office.

I do agree with the stage fright thing. I cannot imagine getting up in front of people who are hoping for any mispronunciation, raising of the eyebrow, any hint of derision. President Bush has dealt with a great deal of tragedy (catastrophic hurricanes, 9-11, etc) in this presidency. I do not envy his position.
