  1. Yes. Well. As long as the police don’t decide to celebrate it with broom stick handles.

Good luck with the protest guys. Unfortunately I think Egypt, like the West is in a bind – we need someone like these guys and something like their tactics to keep the Jihadis at bay. Can we get rid of one without getting the other?

    Iraq suggests not.

  2. Okay, is “Police Day” the name the demonstrators have given to their protest; or is there actually a Police Day in Egypt? It wouldn’t be a strange and awful idea for a holiday…unless it’s in Egypt.

    Or Mexico.

I don’t see why it would be an awful day to celebrate – anywhere else but Egypt.

Most of the former Soviet-influenced countries had “police days” and even “KGB days”. Where everyone would put aside a day a year to celebrate the good job the police and security services were doing in saving the country from counter-revolutionaries and other assorted criminals. You know, school visits, sponsor-a-border-guard programs and the like. For some reason the Communists thought that the KGB got a bad press and needed some PR work.

I don’t know if Egypt copied this from the USSR but I would not be surprised.
