0 Cairo is a comedy cow and we’re milking it.
Stand
Up Cairo is reviving the lost art of Egyptian stand up comedy. We will
be holding auditions on the 15/16 April from 6-10 pm during which
talented individual performers will be invited to perform a two – five
minute skit of original material in Arabic or English. We are talking
here about classic stand up: one (wo)man and a mic. We are not
interested in theatre troupes, nor do we want re-enactments of 1960s
monologues. We are looking for the accountants, students, waiters and
doctors who can find the comedy in Cairo’s craziness.

Dude, wish I’d known earlier, guess I deserve it for not reading your blog more often than not… Well I left a comment on their blog if any future auditions will be set, since I’d love to see the sort of people that try out for stand up. It’s not an easy thing, but worth the laugh. Also it’d be interesting to see Egyptians performing in English, well for those that have applied to do so, just to get a clue if they use Egyptian humor in a translation format or actual original set pieces like all the great comedy central stand ups.
Curious, since the US has a shit load of material to work with.. you know white people joking about Latinos, Asians and blacks. Black people talk about white people and how black people do their shit different. Whether Egyptians will use the typical southern farmer stereotypes or actually see something new.
