This is the Middle East. No one is loyal to any ideology or country, or anything other than cynical about anything other than family and perhaps religion.
The Lebanese are turning on the Syrians today. They’ll be embracing them as brothers tomorrow.

You’re not going to convince those who disagree with you if you start out by calling them evil or stupid. Fortunately, the Simpsons is a fabulous show, so HeiGou should take no offense at your comment. On the other hand, had you accused Hei of being an avid Survivor watcher, it might have been different.

Hey, nothing wrong with the Simpsons. Well they aren’t as good as they used to be. I think they jumped the shark about the time Mrs Flanders died.
Mideast expert? Well no. But I know a little about Lebanese history. Let’s see, Hezbollah is Syria’s main ally which is aligned to Michel Aoun who was driven out of Lebanon by Syria. His main Muslim opponents are the Sunnis, who have been consistently pro-Syria until about five years ago, and Walid Jumblatt who spent the whole Civil War fighting for Syria – despite the fact that they murdered his father. If you can point out to me what sort of consistent moral or ethical basis underlies these alliances I would be very appreciative.
The fact is just as Jumblatt now condemns Syria despite having fought for them, he will eventually come to embrace them as brothers.
